Welcome to Geoskwela! This is a supplementary learning site that seeks to help teachers like you to discuss topics on energy transformation, sources, generation, transmission and distribution, as well as the environmental impacts of energy generation. You can use the materials in this site to create lesson plans for both face to face and online learning classes. The materials are also aligned with the Science Curriculum of the Department of Education for Grades 6, 9 and 11. Learning is an essential element of human development. As teachers, you have been entrusted with the challenging task of enabling young minds to understand and appreciate the role of Science in human life and activities. We sincerely hope that you will be able to use the materials in this site to motivate your students and facilitate effective learning despite the many challenges that both you and your students face.

Objectives

This learning site aims to:

Present key concepts and strategies related to renewable and non-renewable energy sources, geothermal energy production, energy transmission and distribution, and the responsible use of energy.
Provide access to various learning materials to support teaching these topics effectively.
Enable participants to develop their own homeschooling lesson plans by incorporating the provided materials and suggested teaching strategies.

Our Courses

Grade 6

This course tackles the topics of Energy Transformation, Heat Transfer, Non-renewable and Renewable Energy Sources and Geothermal Energy.

Grade 9

This course covers the topics of Harnessing Renewable Energy for Power Generation, Heat and Work Model Construction and Demonstration, and Electricity Transmission and Distribution.

Grade 11

This course discusses the topics of Harnessing Geothermal Energy for Power Generation and Addressing the Environmental Impacts of Power Generation.

Site Features

Learning Materials

The learning materials are composed of instructional videos, experiment videos and booklets for Grades 6, 9 and 11. These original materials were developed to serve as supplementary references for the relevant topics in the Department of Education curriculum for each grade level.
Student Information

The sample activities and exercises after each booklet serve as checks for understanding for the concepts discussed in each booklet. These exercises are easily adaptable to online and offline use depending on the way that classes are conducted.
Payment Information

A Pre-Test/Post-Test is provided for each grade level to serve as a form of diagnostic and summative assessment for the topics covered in the relevant lessons. The test is meant to be administered to students in a manner best suited to the way that class is conducted.

Teaching Guides for Grades 6, 9 and 11 are provided, using the 5Es Framework, based on the Department of Education Science Curriculum Guides. There is also a downloadable lesson plan template, sample blended learning lesson plan and sample face-to-face lesson plan for each grade level. Teachers can use these as a guide to develop their own lesson plans, using the Geoskwela materials. Forms and rubrics for the sample lesson plans are also available for the use of teachers.
